I don't rant often, do I? I mean, not a whole lot, anyway, but I really have to rant for a minute: The Olympics are NOT BEING SHOWN LIVE ON TV to anyone who lives on the West Coast in the USA.
There, I've said it.
The Olympics COULD be shown live by NBC, which owns the rights (having paid $900M for them) but INEXPLICABLY the Olympics are only being shown live on the EAST coast.
On the West Coast - home of such backwater, TV-hating cities as LOS ANGELES, SAN FRANCISCO and SEATTLE, we are watching world records get set, gold medals won and history made THREE HOURS AFTER IT HAPPENS.
Can anyone tell me why a TV Network would do this?
In an age when results are instantly available on the Internet, and three-hour-old news may as well be three-week-old news, surely NBC is totally undermining the friggin point of the millions they have paid to earn the right to entertain us!
Does NBC really think I'm going to stay up, sitting on the edge of my sofa, to watch Michael Phelps swim at 10.30pm when he ACTUALLY won his latest gold medals three hours earlier?
Well, they're bloody wrong. I'm off to bed.
Delay is based on a couple bloody factors:
1. They're using H-P servers so it's friggin' slow.
2. They know it's difficult for old fogies like McCain to stay up, so NBC waits for 'em to take a nap and then they show the stuff.
3. Gettin' too many calls from PR agencies such as Text 100 and other half-wits bleedin' botherin' 'em all the time so they are delayed in presenting the video.
4. Can't figger out how to bribe the Chinese judges to change their minds after the USA has already lost.
5. Using "Eddie The Eagle" as their messenger -- no wonder the videos take three hours to get to the production facility.
And while we're on the subject of bollicking around, how about those poofta USA footy players losing like nancy-boys to some cab drivers from Cameroon or some bloody country. That program is in Barney.
At least with a bleedin' three-hour delay, we don't have to watch that rubbish of the USA men trying to pretend they know how to play footy. Just hit "delete" on the TiVo-Beeb-Telly, tell the Bird to go and fetch you another pint, and switch to re-runs of Benny Hill, wot?

Mad man.
But I'll concede, all of those explanations for the three hour delay are quite plausible.

I thought I'd add that NBC appears to have given up on the three-hour tape delay entirely. We're now getting 'highlights' shows each evening from 8pm until the early hours, which are showing the events from TWENTY hours ago, saving the live events for insomniacs between 2am and 5am. I give up.

NBC'S olympic coverage was the worst ever. NBC is racist, biased and lame.
