I was strolling in Palo Alto this afternoon with William. We were taking in the sights while mum was getting some much-deserved pampering at the hair salon.
I saw this headline and it reminded me of the power of the written word.
Aren't newspaper headlines just uniquely powerful?
There's something even more powerful about them when they're presented out in the open - in the street- where anyone can see them.
The day newspaper headlines (in print) disappear forever is surely just around the corner but we'll lose something special that day, I feel.
Of course, these handy "newspaper boxes" will likely be transformed into wireless news distribution points with electronic headline displays, the full stories behind which I will be able to download to my smart phone wirelessly as I walk past...so perhaps the end is not entirely nigh.
Anyway, today when I saw this I thought about all the good friends who lost their jobs just because overzealous would-be homeowners took on mortgages they couldn't afford and because bankers gambled wrecklessly on the anticipated value of those loans
So, for the sake of all those out-of-work friends, let's just reflect on this headline, and hope that the San Jose Mercury News and Intel are right.
