As Emma will testify, I simply cannot get enough of good archeological sites or 'stones', as she calls them. Today, then, was the perfect day for me, and possibly a nightmare for Em, but that's ok - this is MY Web log!
Actually, there was the proverbial "something for everyone" on this journey as the trip to the ancient pre-Incan capital Tiwanaku also happened to take us up onto the Bolivian alti-plano - imagine miles of desert-like landscape framed on all sides by snow- capped mountains - stunning stuff.
Anyway, Tiwanaku pre-dates the Inca empire by about 1500 years and as such is in a considerably worse state of repair than, say, Machu Picchu but it was still worth the one hour trip, not least because we travelled to the site onboard a public minibus. I sat next to a lady wearing a bowler hat and traditional Bolivian costume - very cool!
I'll spare you the complete rundown on Tiwanaku, but suffice to say my fix for megalithic statues, enormous ceremonial sites and millennia-old pottery was well and truly satisfied! (see photo for details!)
We're off to Sucre tomorrow, sadly not on a lovely designed-for-dwarves Bolivian minibus, but on a nice safe airplane.. .ever heard of Lloyd Airlines anyone??? More 'adventure' travel? One hopes not!
"I'll spare you the complete rundown on Tiwanaku" Ha! That's in writing now, and can be produced in a court of law.

Hello family and friends - I can't post to my own weblog but I'm still alive and well after five days in the high desert. Just returned to civilization and will update the site tomorrow from La Paz...

See. Even the blog doesn't want the complete rundown on Tiwanku... (Didn't he used to play for Arsenal?)
