It's been a while since I did a "Life is Great" post (life's been too busy being great), but with an exciting weekend rapidly approaching, I simply had to share with you my excitement about the incredible cultural phenomenon that is the Eurovision Song Contest.
Eurovision is possibly the only thing that is truly uniquely 'European'. After all, none of Europe actually agrees about anything else, but when it comes to one Saturday night in May, all Europeans agree there is only one place to be for the best in kitsch entertainment - in front of the TV.
For the unitiated, Eurovision is - as its name suggests - a pop contest. It is also a pop contest where attractive drag queens win, where biased voting is rife, where xenophobic commentators run riot and where no-one can ever remember the name of their national entry a week after the contest. Still, that's not why we watch it anyway.
So, tune in (on the Web if necessary) this Saturday for a riot of color, a cocophony of Euro-pop and no doubt a German or two wearing Wizard hats. God bless Europe!
Ah, my English husband has neglected to tell me about this. I wonder why? I guess I'll know after Saturday night!! : )
